Plain of Jars – History, Mystery & Local Encounters

At the Plain of Jars, visitors don’t just walk among ancient relics — they immerse in history, meet local artisans, and explore the cultural heart of Xieng Khouang. The stone jars, scattered across Sites 1, 2, and 3, invite curiosity, but the experience deepens with each step.

Travelers can join a guided walking tour to uncover ancient funerary practices and war history, cycle through nearby H’mong and Khmu villages, try traditional weaving, or even steam sticky rice with a local host. At the MAG Visitor Center, gain valuable insight into the ongoing UXO clearance efforts in the region.

The site opens daily from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Entrance fee: 10,000 LAK (~0.5 USD). Best time to visit is from November to February, when skies are clear, temperatures are pleasant, and the surrounding landscape is lush and green.
