Welcome to Luang Prabang, a timeless city where tradition blends effortlessly with charm. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by our guide and transferred to your hotel. Your room will be ready by 02:00 PM, giving you time to relax or ease into the gentle rhythm of this UNESCO World Heritage town.
In the afternoon, we recommend taking a stroll along the riverside lanes of the Old Quarter, where colonial façades meet Buddhist serenity. Sip coffee in a cozy café tucked between vintage shophouses or savor a pastry at a local bakery. As twilight falls, the Luang Prabang Night Market comes alive, where you’ll find handmade crafts, textiles, and street food that reflect the region’s rich cultural diversity.
NOTE: A surcharge will be applied if you wish to check in early.
Start your day early to experience the unique Lao tradition of morning alms-giving (Tak Bat), one of the few Buddhist rituals still actively practiced in Laos today. If you wish to join the locals in offering alms to the monks, you can easily find prepared items such as sticky rice and a traditional sash called Sabai along the main street. For those who prefer to observe, we kindly ask that you do so from a respectful distance and avoid taking photographs that may disrupt the sacred atmosphere.
From there, stroll through the lively local morning market before returning to the hotel for breakfast.
Next, set out to join a guided tour exploring the spiritual and cultural heritage of Luang Prabang.
Visit Wat Sene, one of the city’s oldest temples, and then admire the elaborate mosaics and historical architecture at Wat Xieng Thong, including the renowned “tree of life” glass mural.
Continue to the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace, to view a curated collection of royal artifacts and exhibits reflecting the rich legacy of Lao culture.
Lunch at your own expense.
In the afternoon, discover the UXO Lao Visitor Center, a modest space with a powerful message about Laos’ unexploded ordnance legacy, the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. Through visuals, short films, and survivor stories, you’ll gain insight into the lasting consequences of war and the incredible efforts by UXO Lao to support affected communities and safely clear land.
Later, climb the 328 steps of Phousi Hill to capture sweeping panoramic views of Luang Prabang, where the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers meet beneath a golden sky. This is one of the most stunning places in Laos to watch the sunset, offering a peaceful and unforgettable end to your day.
Depart this morning with full energy after breakfast and cruise upstream on the Mekong River to reach the Pak Ou Caves, a mystical pilgrimage site carved into towering limestone cliffs. These sacred limestone caverns, known as Tham Ting and Tham Phum, are home to thousands of Buddha statues in all shapes and sizes, placed by devoted pilgrims over centuries.
Lunch will be on your own.
This afternoon, stop at two riverside villages along the way.
Step into Ban Xang Hai, where villagers produce well-known traditional rice whiskey called Lao Lao.
Continue to Ban Xang Khong, known for its prized Lao textiles still created on ancient wooden looms and handmade Saa paper, a signature craft of this region.
Cruise along the Mekong River on your way back to Luang Prabang, then relax your body after a lively day at the hotel.
Start your morning with vitality at Kao Niaw Farm, a unique farming experience. After a short scenic drive, you visit a peaceful organic farm near Luang Prabang to join an authentic hands-on farming experience guided by local farmers. Depending on the season, you may participate in rice planting, vegetable harvesting, or other traditional farming techniques passed down through generations, which is a fun and meaningful way to connect with Lao traditional rural life.
After your farm experience, enjoy a freshly cooked farm-to-table lunch, using ingredients harvested directly from the garden.
With your energy full after lunch, you will head to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls, which promise to heal your soul with every step you take as you wander the forest paths, dip your feet in the turquoise pools, or simply soak in the beauty of the cascading waterfalls.
Before reaching the falls, make a meaningful stop at the Free the Bears Rescue Center, nestled within the park grounds. This non-profit sanctuary is home to rescued Asiatic black bears, affectionately known as moon bears. Discover the center’s heartfelt mission to protect these gentle creatures and experience firsthand the impact of Laos’s quiet yet powerful conservation efforts.
Complete your day with a meaningful visit to Ban Na Ouane, a traditional Hmong village tucked into the serene hills of northern Laos. Stroll through the village paths to witness daily life unfolding: children playing, women weaving, and elders tending to their homes. Discover the unique culture of the Hmong people, one of Laos’s largest ethnic minority groups, as you learn about their customs, vibrant clothing, and artisanal handicrafts passed down through generations.
As the afternoon light softens, return to Luang Prabang with a heart full of connection and memories woven from the fabric of authentic local life.
Have a full breakfast and finish the check-out process. Today, your journey leaves behind the charm of Luang Prabang and sets off to Nong Khiaw, taking approximately 3.5 to 4 hours drive through the misty mountains and countryside of northern Laos. As you arrive, check in to your accommodation and take a moment to settle in will be available from 02:00 PM.
Later in the afternoon, embark on a peaceful kayaking experience along the Nam Ou River, one of Laos’s most scenic and serene waterways.
Paddle through calm stretches of river flanked by towering limestone cliffs, dense forests, and tranquil traditional riverside villages. This gentle yet immersive activity invites you to slow down and truly connect with the quiet beauty and rhythm of local life in northern Laos.
After your time on kayaking, return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure, perhaps watching the sun set behind the mountains or simply relaxing in this riverside retreat.
Start your morning with a peaceful breakfast surrounded by the crisp mountain air and the tranquil beauty of northern Laos. Today, you’ll spend the day uncovering the cultural richness and natural wonders of Nong Khiaw, where quiet history and dramatic landscapes come together in harmony.
Begin your morning at the Ban Manda Ethnic Museum, a small yet meaningful, community-run space that celebrates the traditions of northern Laos’s diverse ethnic groups. Through displays of traditional clothing, tools, and daily life, gain a deeper understanding of the Khmu, Hmong, and other communities who have called this region home for generations.
Continue to Pha Tok Cave, nestled just outside of town. During the Indochina War, this limestone cave served as a shelter and strategic hideout for local villagers and revolutionary soldiers. A short uphill walk leads you to its entrance, where chambers once used as classrooms, kitchens, and meeting spaces echo with the resilience of the past. Surrounded by forest and cliffs, the site offers both historical insight and natural beauty.
In the afternoon, lace up your hiking shoes for a rewarding trek to Phasom Nang Viewpoint, a lesser-known trail that winds through forested hills to a breathtaking overlook. From the top, take in sweeping views of the Nam Ou River and the jagged limestone peaks that define this region. The moderate hike is well worth the effort for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a quiet moment above it all.
Back to your hotel in the late afternoon, with a deeper connection to the stories and scenery that shaped this peaceful corner of Laos.
Relish the last morning in idyllic Nong Khiaw, the journey ahead deep into the heart of northern Laos, where life flows with the river and time seems to slow.
Begin with a peaceful cruise upstream along the Nam Ou River, a journey that winds past soaring karst cliffs, misty jungle ridges, and riverside hamlets tucked into the landscape. As the scenery unfolds, you’ll arrive at Ban Sopkong, a quiet village accessible only by boat, where simplicity and nature live side by side.
From here, set off on a gentle trek through forested trails to reach the beautiful Tad Mok Falls. Depending on the season, the falls offer a refreshing retreat which is perfect for a moment of stillness, a splash in the cool stream, or a photo framed by cascading water and wild foliage.
Back on the river, your boat glides onward to Muang Ngoi, a secluded village cradled between dramatic mountains and the Nam Ou River. With no roads leading in, this peaceful town invites you to truly unplug and slow down.
Upon reaching the village, check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon as you please. Whether lounging in a hammock, wandering quiet village paths, or simply soaking in the view over a cup of coffee, the peaceful rhythm of Muang Ngoi will settle over you like a soft mist, the kind that stays with you long after the journey ends.
Following breakfast, bid farewell to the peaceful rhythm of Muang Ngoi and board a boat that carries you gently downstream along the Nam Ou River. As jungle-covered cliffs and riverside life drift past, the journey shifts from water to road, winding through rural valleys and remote hamlets en route back to Luang Prabang.
By midday, you’ll reach the city once again. While your room becomes available from 02:00 PM, the afternoon is entirely yours.
You may wish to relax at your hotel, wander the atmospheric lanes of the Old Town, browse for handcrafted souvenirs at local markets, or indulge in a traditional Lao massage. However you spend it, the soft rhythm of Luang Prabang provides the perfect backdrop for reflection, rest, or one last layer of discovery.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depending on your flight time, your driver will transfer you to Luang Prabang International Airport. End of services, and hope you have safe travels!
